Well This Is Kind Of Embarrassing…

Ok I have to admit, it’s a little embarrassing what I’m posting today.  I’m 30 years old and it was only a few months ago when I tried my first extra-long curling iron.  I know it might not seem like a big deal but I pride myself in trying all of the latest and greatest…and let me tell you this iron makes a world of a difference!  I received this BioIonic curling iron as a gift for Christmas & the one I got is six inches long and 1.25 inches in diameter and for me, this is the perfect size for the type of curl that I want.

And I can’t be the only one that loves this iron since it received fifteen 5 out of 5 star reviews on Sephora.com, that’s unheard of!

I know you might think this iron isn’t for you if you have shorter hair but let me tell you otherwise!  I love this iron for two reasons: the extra length allows you to curl all the way up to the root, saving time if not halving it, and it gets superbly hot.  From what I can tell the added heat curls the hair quicker and it makes it last longer throughout the day.  What else could you want in life?   With this iron we’ve cut our getting ready time in half and we’ve extended the life of our hairstyle/blowout.  I would say this iron will work best for hair that is collarbone length or longer.  The iron I have allows you to pick your heat level and I always choose the hottest, which is 430 degrees.  If you’ve recently colored your hair or if it’s in a more fragile state you can pick a lower setting but I am more than pleased with how well this iron works on my platinum blonde hair.  There will be a tiny bit of a learning curve as working with a longer (hot) iron is a bit challenging, but it’s nothing that takes longer than a day or two.  I also love this specific iron because the clamp follows all the way to the end.  Some extended irons don’t have that feature and it’s just less of a headache for me to have to worry about where I’m letting it clamp shut as I’m curling it all over my head.  Quick & easy and I’m out the door!

I’M INTO IT :: ICE BLONDE LOCKS

candi

I know what you’re thinking, everyone always recommends going darker for the colder months…

But let me tell you…this is a modern-girl beauty blog & around here we like to keep things fresh.

I wanted to share some inspiration pictures from Pinterest because no matter what your base is, I think that going lighter with your haircolor lights up your face.  I know this look is too bold for most but take a few highlights into consideration.  Lighter locks add dimension to your haircolor and it warms your complexion up instantly.

And of course, I LOVE the idea of ice blonde for winter.  A grown up Elsa if you will?  Pairing it with a neutral black and cream wardrobe elevates your look and I also think dainty, delicate jewelry accentuates it well.

Because let’s be honest, this haircolor is the star of the show…

Fall Makeup Inspiration

fallmakeup4

I love me a good tradition…every year for Halloween my aunt would make two different pots of soup and nothing gave me greater joy than stopping at her house for comfort food with friends and family.  The air is turning crisper and people are finding ways to incorporate pumpkin into both their food and their front porches.

If you’re a girlie girl like me, you delight in the fact that a new season brings on a new color palette to play with.  Fall and winter are often associated with darker colors and maybe even a few jewel tones along with it.

But today I decided to re-invent the wheel.  Instead of reaching for my deep plum or burgundy lipstick, I tried out a new “look” am I’m in love with the results.  I’ve been a fan of messy hair for years now and love a super tousled look.  After scanning through my Instagram, I saw a video of a girl and I loved her makeup.  She had giant but natural lashes on top and bottom with a rosy pink matte lipstick on.  And then it clicked for me, this is my new fall uniform: messy hair, pink matte lips and giant lashes!

This look is SO easy to do and it would great for both day and night, especially with a little added matte cocoa shadow on the lids and it looks great with dewy skin or matte foundation.

The lip color in the pictures is actually a liner by Sonia Kashuk & the color is “Pink Whisper.” Lipliner as a lipstick is thebomb.com because it’s SO easy to apply and you can throw a lip balm on top of it and not worry about it smearing like other sticks or glosses.  Beautiful and put together?  Sign me up.

This liner is only $8 bucks, for that price you can buy two and keep one in your bathroom and the other in your purse for touch-ups!

In yesterday’s post, I blogged about an adorable glass + gold tray on sale at Target that would make a great Christmas gift.  Why not throw in the $9 lipliner and be friend/relative of the year? Just a thought…;-)

Did She Get Hair Extensions?

hair (1)A few weeks ago one of my dear clients walked into the spa and asked me “did you get hair extensions put in? Your hair looks so long.”

My response?

“No I didn’t, but God bless you.”

We’ve all had that feeling right? When someone gives us an amazing compliment and it takes us to the moon and back? #CanIGetAnAmen?

I will admit, my hair is looking the longest it ever has and I have to share an incredible product with you.  I am in no way getting paid for this post but please feel free to send green papers my way if you see this post Olaplex…

Here are a few snapshots of my hair (click on the pic to enlarge) and included is the MIRACLE product I’ve been using for the past few months –

OlaCollage

Taddaaa! It’s the Olaplex No. 3 Hair Perfector!

Y’all, I’ve tried EVERY single hair product there is on the beauty market.  I have bleached my hair for so many years, too many to count and this is the only product that has ever made a real difference in my hair.  *Please note, this is not a conditioning treatment nor is it a miracle growth hair treatment. The reason this has made my hair the longest it’s ever been is because it prevents breakage. When your hair is heavily-processed it becomes weaker and weaker, eventually breaking off and making it near impossible for any growing out potential.  Olaplex changes the makeup of your hair and actually strengthens your hair and it’s elasticity.  Your hair is less prone to “snapping and breaking” when you brush it (especially when wet) and also when you color and style it.

Ask your stylist about the No. 3 Hair Perfector and how to properly use it for your hair type. This product is not just for blondes, it works great on all hair types as well!

The Holy Grail Hairstyling Brand

image

My sister and I both have thick, heavy hair. It’s a blessing no doubt, but unless you really “learn the ropes” of styling it you will forever fight the battle of limp, lifeless hair.

Until now.

I curled my hair on Christmas Eve for dinner with a 1.25 inch barrel curling iron and it hurts me to say that I don’t have any pictures of my hair from that night to show you. But I woke up the next day on Christmas morning and did about everything under the sun EXCEPT for touching (or even brushing) my hair. I got home later that night and couldn’t believe how good my hair looked. Here are a few iPhone pictures…

So what did I use to create these long lasting curls & volume?

Cue the-ever-fabulous Sexy Hair brand and it’s beloved

“Big Sexy Hair” Spray and Play: Volumizing Hairspray

image

Y’all. I can’t!!!

This stuff is amazing along with every other styling product they carry. I am a huge fan of this along with the Root Pump Plus mousse because it will yield serious volume results. My sister (pictured above with the bob) used the “Get Layered” spray and loves her results just as much as I do. Yes, she woke up with that hair too and it looks that good.

I have just a few rules for using the volumizing hairspray…

Section off your hair and spray it evenly, making sure that you don’t hold it too close to your head. The spray produces a very strange texture on your hair, almost like a freeze spray would. It will probably freak you out at first but here is the expert tip, brush out all of your hair AFTER you spray it. This will soften your hair and give it a better hold in your curling iron. I always brush my hair after I spray it. It just makes it so much more manageable. Then I spray my hair a few times (held far away) as I’m curling it and then again when I’m done curling to set it.

I can’t wait to see what new heights your hair reaches with the Big Sexy Hair brand!
